Privacy Policy
TIMESNAP · LAST UPDATED 18 OCTOBER 2026
TimeSnap is a camera app for Android and iPhone, made by RotherTech, for recreating old photos. This policy explains what the app does and does not do with information. It is short because the app keeps everything on your phone and never goes online.
What we collect
Nothing.
There are no accounts, no sign-in, no analytics, no advertising and no tracking. We operate no servers for TimeSnap, and nothing from the app is ever sent to us.
No internet use
On Android, the app does not have the internet permission, so it cannot connect to anything. Its installed permissions also include “view network connections”, which a camera library from Google adds automatically. That permission can only check whether a network is available; it cannot send or receive anything. On iPhone, the app makes no network connections.
The camera
The camera is used only while you are on the camera screen. To show the edge outlines, hints and match score, the app looks at each camera frame in memory on your phone and then discards it. Nothing from the camera is recorded except the photo you take when you press the shutter.
The old photo you pick
You choose the old photo with your phone’s own photo picker. The picker gives the app only the photo you select, never access to the rest of your library. That photo is used on your phone to line up the shot. It is not uploaded or copied anywhere.
The photos you take
Each new photo is saved to your phone’s photos. On Android it goes to Pictures/TimeSnap through Android’s media store, which needs no storage permission. On iPhone it goes to Photos with add-only access, which lets the app save a photo without being able to see the photos already in your library. Once saved, these photos are yours and are covered by your phone’s own settings, including any photo backup you use.
What the app stores on your phone
A short list of the shots you have taken: which old photo, which new photo, and the match score. It is kept in the app’s own storage, is groundwork for a future history feature, and never leaves your phone.
Sharing
The app shares a photo only when you tap Share, using your phone’s share sheet, and only to the app or person you choose. What happens after that is up to the app you shared to.
Permissions, and why each exists
Camera
Used only on the camera screen, as described above. It is the only permission the app asks you for on Android.
Photos (iPhone)
Add-only access, used only to save the photos you take. The app cannot read your library.
The app does not request location, contacts, microphone, storage or internet access, and it does not use your location.
Children
TimeSnap is not directed at children, and it collects no information from anyone, including children under 13.
Data retention and deletion
We hold no data, so there is nothing for us to retain or delete. Uninstalling the app removes the list of shots it kept. Photos it saved to your phone’s photos stay there until you delete them.
Changes to this policy
TimeSnap is still in development. If this policy changes, the revised version will be posted at this address with a new date at the top.
