OLD IRON · LAST UPDATED 11 OCTOBER 2026

Old Iron is a workout tracker for Android, made by RotherTech. This policy explains what the app does and does not do with information. It is short because the app keeps everything on your phone.

What we collect

Nothing.

There are no accounts, no analytics, no advertising, no crash reporting and no telemetry. The app does not have Android’s internet permission, so it cannot send anything anywhere. We operate no servers for it, and nothing you log is ever sent to us.

What the app stores on your phone

Your equipment profile, your plans, every set and cardio session you log, how each exercise felt, any custom exercises you add, your settings, and your body weight if you enter it (used only to estimate calories burned during cardio). All of it is stored in the app’s private storage on your phone.

Backups

Backups are optional. You choose a folder with Android’s file picker and set a passphrase, and the app writes an encrypted file (AES-256) to that folder, either when you tap Back up now or on a schedule you pick. If the folder is synced by another service, such as a cloud drive, that service’s own policy covers the file; we never see it. We never see your passphrase either. If you lose it, the backup cannot be opened, by you or by us.

Health Connect

Health Connect is Android’s on-device store for health and fitness data. Connecting Old Iron to it is optional and off until you turn it on. Android asks you to approve each kind of data separately, and you can withdraw access at any time in Health Connect’s settings.

DataAccessWhy
Exercise sessionsWriteSo finished workouts appear alongside your other fitness data, such as from a Pixel Watch or Fitbit
Heart rateReadTo show heart rate from your watch in a workout’s summary
Calories burnedReadTo show calories from your watch in a workout’s summary

Data read from Health Connect is shown in the app and stays on your phone. It is never used for advertising and never shared with anyone.

Permissions, and why each exists

Notifications

Used for the rest timer, so it can keep counting with the app closed, offer +15 s and Skip buttons, and tell you when rest is over.

Vibration, alarms and keeping the timer running

Used so the rest timer can buzz when rest is over and finish on time while the phone is asleep. Nothing about these is recorded.

Health Connect

Only the three kinds of data in the table above, and only if you connect it. The app does not request location, contacts, camera, microphone, storage or internet access.

Price

Old Iron is free. There are no purchases, subscriptions or ads in it.

Children

Old Iron is a training log for adults. It is not directed at children, and it collects no information from anyone, including children under 13.

Data retention and deletion

We hold no data, so there is nothing for us to retain or delete. Uninstalling the app removes everything it stored on your phone. Backup files you made stay in the folder you chose until you delete them, and workouts the app wrote to Health Connect stay there until you remove them in Health Connect.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the revised version will be posted at this address with a new date at the top.
